We are having a dinner party on Saturday. Saturday also happens to be my birthday. This is not a birthday party per se.
In years past, we had dinner parties more frequently. Like four times a year. No big deal you say? Well this is a dinner party where we make everything. Hell if I could make the lettuce for the chicken lettuce wraps, I would.
When I say we make everything, I am not exaggerating too much.
For this dinner party, we are having:
A couple different quiches--I admit, I do not make the pie crust, have never been able to make a decent one, so Pillsbury does the work for me!
Two soups--Chicken and corn velvet soup, and a yet to be decided soup. What makes this special, is yesterday I went ahead and made the chicken stock for the soups. This of course meant that I boiled down two chickens.
spicy chicken lettuce wraps--this I love to make. I make the chicken filling and the dipping sauces. A soy based chili sauce and a peanut sauce. So good. These are well loved.
Asparagus wrapped in prosciutto with truffle butter--ok so I don't really dig prosciutto or truffle, because well I don't. Rob is making these, and well, that is just fine with me. I am the weirdo that likes canned asparagus (I know, I know).
Potato Au Gratin--emmanthaler and asiago cheeses, along with roasted garlic and onion. Enough heart stopping goodness for a life time in one pan. Mmmmmmm. Rob makes this, although I can if I need to.
Almond crusted tilapia with a leek cream puree--You can keep the puree. Again another Rob dish!
A huge ass beef roast--I will make this bad boy. We will have au jous with it as well. I just love roast. Mmmmmmmmm.
then of course I am making several different types of bread. From scratch. No bread machine. No bakery. My two hands, an oven and some yeast and flour! Also we are going to have assorted fruits and veggies to go with assorted cheeses.
Then we have desserts, which Rob will make. Mousse, cheesecake, and a birthday cake for yours truly.
Hmmm, what have I left out? Oh yes the 500 dollars worth of booze. You read correctly. 500.00 $ worth of booze. Everything from ale to mead to vodka to wine to assorted mixed drinks. Yep a lot. Not all of it will be consumed on Saturday. Mostly just the beer. Of course people will have wine--not me, can't stand the stuff--with dinner, and mixed drinks as people wish. It is always a fun time.
The best part is the scavenger hunt after the dinner. Rob makes them up and they are always a blast. Really, really, fun when others are completely off their nutters drunk!
So I am cleaning this week. As well as doing the usual prison guard duty for two year olds! It is a busy, busy week!
Hug me!
