Oh oh oh, I'm on fire!

Shhhhhh, do you hear that?
Listen carefully. There, there, do you hear it now?
The creaking.
The popping.
The unmistakable buzzing sound that means death is in the near future.

As I was cooking dinner on Monday evening, those were the sounds I heard. I had just turned on my oven, so I could reheat leftovers. I was making gravy on the stove top, when I heard the above noises. Looked all over the kitchen trying to figure out what the hell the noise was.

Walked around looking like an idiot trying to figure out where it was coming from. Figured out finally that it was the oven. I thought maybe I had accidentally turned on the clean oven feature. Checked it, that was not it. Damn.

Open the door to the oven, only to see flames. Bright as a light bulb flames.

Now some of you may read that and go, what's the big deal. Flames are in ovens, it is how we cook. Well you are almost right. Flames are in gas ovens. Not electric ovens!!!!!

Turns out part of the bottom element was catching on fire. I turned it off. Waited for a bit. Then determined in order to make dinner I would have to brave turning Dante's Inferno back on.

Took forever to cook the oven items. I think only half the element works, which totally sucks. This means we will most likely have to get a new oven. This oven is so old, it just is not worth it to replace it part by part. We had been hoping to hold off the death song for the stove, but alas, it has started to go senile.

On the positive, I will most likely get a gas stove. Have always wanted one of those, since I grew up with them.

On the negative, I will most likely get a gas stove. Have to have the gas line run, which is not a big issue. But I would rather spend that money on Christmas gifts.

On a totally non related, but I am going to write about it anyway topic, have you checked out my picture blog? Comments are always welcomed! If I don't like what you have to say, well you will know!
