I have been waiting for what seems like forever to be able to post here. Everytime I click to come here, it takes forever to load. That annoys the living shit out of me. Small gripe I know, but still.
Have you ever thought about how as a society, we no longer have the patience to wait for anything?
I of course am just as guilty of that as anyone. Still, I find it pretty pathetic. We have all gotten so used to our technology making things happen quickly, that when something takes longer then we expect, we get bent out of shape.
Me trying to connect to this site today is a prime example. I have a cable modem, which should mean that I connect with lightening speed. So when it took nearly five minutes to get to the start page of my blog, I was atomically pissed off.
It is like we are so wrapped up in wanting things now, that we let our lives fly past. I know logically, that it is not a big deal to have to wait, yet, it is all I can do not to jump up and down, with steam pouring out of my ears when I am forced to wait.
I seriously considered taking a hammer to my computer! But that wouldn't be fair to the computer, it didn't do anything!
We have gotten so ridiculous, that now we have mac and cheese that takes about 2 minutes to make in the microwave. It tastes like hammered shit, but damn it gets done and into your mouth fast. And really that is what counts, right?
We have cans of soup that you just put in the microwave, and poof they are done. You no longer have to add water. God knows you have saved oh so much time taking that step out of the equation.
There is rice that you pop into the microwave for 90 seconds, and it is done. Nevermind all the freakin preservatives that are in it to keep it fresh, and make it cook quickly.
You know, setting a rice cooker to cook the rice for you, is oh so tedious. (sarcasm here folks)
Hell, the drive through at your favorite heart attack with arches is a good example. Most people will wait in a drive through line that is 10 cars deep. Why? Because it is faster, you don't have to move your ass, and the food is fast. Really it isn't faster then just walking in, and ordering to go. Hell no one would be in there, the people are all outside in line at the drive through. The food may be fast, but it sucks. Nuggets of death, in neato packages!
Have you seen Supersize Me? Watch it. You will never want to eat at the golden arches of death again. Well, ok for a month or so, but still, something to think about.
Did you know you can buy premade frozen sandwiches, without crusts at the grocery store? I mean it is just so exhausting making a sammich from scratch. All the wrapping and unwrapping of the bread. The placement of the fillings. The sandwich bagging-ai carumba talk about tough. Egads, it ranks right up there with cruel and unusual punishment!
I admit, I am an impatient person. I want things done when I want them done. But I think as a society we have gone overboard.
We no longer stop to smell the roses, they take too long to grow, so we buy rose scented candles instead.
When was the last time, you took your time to do something? Yeah I can't remember either. Waiting sucks!
